1. Which of the following statements is NOT true about a one-way ANOVA?
If you know SSbetween and SSwithin, you can calculate SStotal. |
||
If you know MSbetween and MSwithin, you can calculate MStotal. |
||
If you know the degrees of freedom between and the degrees of freedom within, you can calculate N. |
||
If you know MSbetween and MSwithin, you can calculate the F-ratio. |
2. In a one-way ANOVA, you reject the null hypothesis if your test statistic is larger than the critical value, not if it is smaller than the critical value.
True
False
3. F-ratios can be either positive or negative.
True
False
4. Eta squared tells us how much of the differences between the scores is accounted for by the differences between the groups.
True
False
Solution :
1) In this quetion all the the statement is true except one. here SStotal is the sum of the SSbetween and SSerror , if we konw the SSbetween and SSerror then we can easily calculate SStotal. Also we know that degrees of freedom between is (t-1) and df of within is (N-t) so if we know thw df of wirhin and between then we can easily calculate the N. and F ratio is the ratio mean sum of square of between and mean sum of square of within.
only statement about the on way anova of MSbetween and MSwithin know so we cant calculate the MStotal because MSbetween and MSwithin are partition of MStotal and this is not important in ANOVA.
2) True : if in ANOVA F- test statistics is larger than F- critical then reject the null hypothesis .
3) False: F ratio is zero or greter than zero not a negative because there is the ratio of mean squared between and within and we kow that if any negative quantity squared is always possitive.
4) True: the result of which can be interpreted as percentages of variance associated with each of the within effect, the interaction, and between effect.
