With particular reference to the ‘morbid symptoms’ of uneven development and regressive nationalism, discuss features of an alternative model of development that could put the world on an alternative path towards global cooperation and even development.
Due to globalization & interdependence, all actions, even the most local, have a consequence at an international level, thus, an international conflict has adverse outcomes, economically & politically speaking to the nations engaged directly & to those involved indirectly. In this context, the nations are modifying their strategies & acts at the international level, by encouraging international cooperation, particularly for development.
International Cooperation for Development (ICD) can be explained as the mobilization of economic , technical & HR to foster wellness, abilities and better life conditions in other nations.
The principles of ICD were formed - alignment, appropriation , harmonization, results-oriented management & mutual accountability.
In these principles there are implicitly included facets such as transparency, accountability, inclusion & definitely governance, & that’s where citizen participation at local & national level gains significance.
Both donors & partners must restructure the manner in which they cooperate .
Its very essential to note that the nations leading these efforts aren’t developed nations, the leading nations are emergent powers & in-development nations such as Brazil, China, South Korea, Mexico, Russia, Australia , etc.
With these modifications in international cooperation, non-conventional forms of ICD have been rising such as horizontal / south-south & triangular cooperation.
To obtain governance its needed the participation of various actors from government, & to incorporate local actors to accomplish developmental goals in nations. These various actors are NGOs, corporates and community clusters, at the national level and also at local level. Because of this, citizen participation becomes an essential actor for development, particularly at the local level.
