What is the accuracy and precision of using a ball screw of 0.5 diameter in designing a table of motion that is 48 inch in x and y direction?

Solutions

Expert Solution

A ball screw consists of a screw and nut , the surfaces of which are separated by a series of balls.the screw and nut have approximately semi- circular thread profiles instead of conventional square or trapezoidal shape.

such screws are preloaded and give accurate motion due to elimination of the backlash. also there is no heat generation due to negiligible friction. therefore for desigining a table of motion of 48 inchs in x and y direction it will be prove accurate because in ball screw there is rolling friction between the balls and grooves in the screw and nut as compared to conventional power screw.

it has 90% efficiency as compared to power screw. as here table of motion is 48 inches then buckling of screw will be less in this case subjected to high precision

therefore for this problem ball screw of 0.5 dia will be accurate and precise.
