Labor market discrimination is the discrimination of workers based on their caste, religion, sex etc. it has been present in various countries. There has been wage discrimination, caste discrimination among the labor in India.

There were different wages decided for female workers and male workers. Females were paid less because they are assumed to be less productive and on the other hand, male workers generally had a higher wage rate. Under caste discrimination, people from few castes are not even given employment. And even from those who had been employed, were discriminated on the basis of their castes. The discrimination of labor market has been hindering the growth of economies. When there is less labor available in the market who is actually working, there will be low national income and thus low GDP. This means having more employment when there is no discrimination would have more income in the economy as a whole and thus contribute to the development of economy.

Steps that can be taken to remove such discriminations are-

1. It can be removed by introducing various laws protecting the rights of labor. For example, wages act that has been valid in India now from so long has helped laborers.

2. Interference by International organizations like UN can help remove such discriminations from the country.
