Part 2
Students sometime report negative experiences when working with teams, particularly if they have experienced a social-loafer in the group. Some argue that social loafing is less prevalent in the workplace because the rewards and sanctions are more closely aligned to individual performance. An interesting argument for individuals' willingness to work and contribute in a group has been posed by Fishbach and colleagues. They argue that identification with others in the group and the group goal is fundamental to an individual's choice to opt into and participate effectively within the group.
3. How important do you think group identification really is to an individual's motivation to work on a task? Do you think this could differ between individuals? What other factors would be relevant?
4. Can you identify an alignment between the argument posed by Fishbach and colleagues to other models or theories of motivation posed throughout this chapter?
5. What strategies could you use to improve group identification, goal commitment and member motivation when working in a group?
Answer 3= It is very important to have the group identification for the members of the team to get motivated as if the person does not identify itself as being the part of the team, then he will not be comfortable in working in the group and he will not be involved in the teamwork.
Yes, the feeling of group belongingness can differ among the individuals as some may have a higher connection with the team while some may lack it completely.
The other important factors may be the collaboration, communication, and support among the team members, the ability of the leader to lead the team.
Answer 4=Yes, there is an alignment in the argument posed by Fishbach and colleagues to other models or theories of motivation as all the scholars highlighted the significance of motivation and having the association with the team and its goals and other team members.
Answer 5= In order to improve the group identification, goal commitment, and member motivation when working in a group, it is important for the team leader to have a clear division of the work among the team members. There must be open communication and interaction among the team members. The members must support and cooperate with each other so that they can help in fulfilling the overall team objectives.
