A tired student working late in lab one evening forgot to label vials differentiating between Cis and trans isomers of FeCl2(CO)4. How can the student use infrared and Raman spectroscopy to determine which vial contains which compound? Show a detailed CO vibrational mode analysis for both compounds and explain your answer using a few sentences

Solutions

Expert Solution

Both the componds can be easily distinguished by using IR spectroscopy technique. In the case of trans isomer the number of bands will appear less in comparion with the cis isomer of the compound. It is becase in the case of trans isomer dipole moment will cancel out of opposite sides while in case of the cis it will not happen so it will give more number of bands. And in the case of raman spectra, trans will give more number of signals in comparison with cis because of the greater polarizability. CO stretching frequency will give symmetrical bands in the ir spectrum of trans isomer in comparison with the cis isomer.

E-recruitment System Brief Overview: Late one evening the President-HR requested for an urgent meeting to discuss the reasons for ‘HR data anomalies’, it was observed that the HR data reports obtained by various HR managers were never in sync. For example, the wage bill had some differences, the employee strength varied, the function and department numbers were never in sync. The senior members of the HR fraternity used to debate this for hours and finally after a series of brainstorming...

Working on the Millikan Oil Drop experiment: when working on the lab one of the key challanges was to select proper oil drops. If the oil drops are too large, their uniform falling speeds will be too fast, resulting in more charges carried by these large oil drops resulting in decreased measurement accuracy. QUESTION: why is it the case that the accuracy decreases? please do your best to answer will rate!!

One of the questions is to "think of a reason why we flush with nitrogen before the addition of ethanol" and another is "why do we add ethanol? Why not...

QUESTION 1 One major difference between lab purchase experiments and simulated purchase experiments is that participants only simulate the choice decision to purchase a product and so do not keep their choices in a simulation. Simulated purchase experiments are a good way to gain quick and low-cost information on buying behaviors but are often prone to bias.
