Night vision technology uses light of about 940 nm.

a) What part of the electromagnetic spectrum is this?

b) Calculate the frequency of this light.

c) Calculate the energy of the light.

Solutions

Expert Solution

a)

Given light is 940 nm = 940 * 10^-9 m

                      = 9.4 * 10^-7 m

the vale is in UV region.

b)

Frequency of the light = velocity of light/wave length

                       = (2.999 * 10^8 m/sec)/(9.4 * 10^-7 m)

                       = 3.1904 * 10^14 sec^-1

c)

Energy of light E = (planck's constant * velocity of light) / wave length

                  = (6.624 * 10^-34 J . Sec * 2.99 * 10^8 m/sec)/(9.4 * 10^-7m)

                  = 2.107 * 10^-19 J
