Why is it so important to write a draft? Why the big deal with revisions?
In academics, writing is an essential part. The writing process involves- prewriting, drafting, revising, editing, and finally publishing. For a well-written piece, it is important for a writer to work through each of the steps. Mostly writing is a creative task that requires repetitive thought, reading, and writing. Writing the first draft is the most difficult to write. The thoughts do not come easily; you even struggle to find the perfect word. Sometimes you do not have full clarity of the idea yourself. So it is basic and essential to write again and again. As you go through the writing process new ideas and issues begin to flow. Usually, the first draft is a very raw and clumsy piece of writing. Mostly you want to put everything that is in mind on the piece of paper.
This makes the revision part important. At the stage of revision, you have some idea of the larger picture that you want to convey to your reader. Accordingly, you can organize and make necessary corrections. Revisions help to improve upon the piece by paying more attention to the argument made, whether the evidence provided is sufficient or not and removes any spelling or grammatical error. Thus revision sharpens and trims the presentation and helps the reader to understand what you are saying.
