  1. An educator believes the average scores on a national statistics quiz are equal for Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday administration days. A random sample of 20 test-takers is collected with the following sample results:

Monday    Tuesday Wednesday Thursday

7 2 7 10

7 4 3    8

9 1 5 8

4   2 9

6 6 7

9 6

Test this hypothesis (by hand) and make sure to show all your work.

Solutions

Expert Solution

We test the hypothesis by using one way ANOVA,

Construct the Hypothesis,

Null Hypothesis: Ho: Average scores on a national statistics quiz are equal.

Alternative Hypothesis: H1: Average scores on a national statistics quiz are not equal.

Calculate One way ANOVA by Using Execel as below.

First Arrange data in Excel

Monday Tuesday Wednesday Thursday
7 2 7 10
7 4 3 8
9 1 5 8
4 2 9
6 6 7
9 6

Then in Excel go Data Menu, Next open Data Analysis tool, Next Click on Anova: Single factor Option, Next Click on Ok and Open (See Below Figure).

Next Give a range of Input range (Data) and Output Range (For Output). as shown in below figure

and Final Output for ANOVA is as shown in below figure,

Interpretation:

From output the P-Value is 0.010 is less than 0.05, that mean Reject the null hypothesis.

Conclusion: Average scores on a national statistics quiz are not equal for Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday administration days.
