Describe, in order, the events that occur to transmit an electrical signal from a presynaptic neuron to either a postsynaptic neuron or a muscle cell.

Solutions

Expert Solution

Synapse is formed between neurons communicate with one another at their junctions. At a synapse, one neuron sends a message to a target neuron with the help of a molecule known as neurotransmitter. The neuron realeasing the neurotransmitter is known as presynaptic neuron and the neuron on which the neurotransmitter acts is known as post synaptic neuron.

Action potential when reaches the axonic end of presynaptiv neuron, it causes release of neurotrnamitter in the synapse which acts on ligand gated sodium receptors and causes its activation. This leads to generation of action postential in the post synaptic neuron.
