In the small intestine-That is duodenum, jejunum and ileum.there is not much significant mechanical digestion occuring other than the emulsification of fat into smaller particles by bile..
Mechanical digestion occurs from mouth to the stomach while chemical digestion occurs from mouth to the intestine.
emulsification (in digestion) The breakdown of fat globules in the duodenum into tiny droplets, which provides a larger surface area on which the enzyme pancreatic lipase can act to digest the fats into fatty acids and glycerol. Emulsification is assisted by the action of the bile salts .
In the large intestine, mechanical digestion begins when chyme moves from the ileum into the cecum, an activity regulated by the ileocecal sphincter.
In Small intestine
A.Duodenum-
The duodenum is where most chemical digestion takes place. These enzymes include trypsin (for protein digestion), amylase (for carbohydrate digestion), and lipase (for lipid digestion)
B.Jejunum -
Here there is no digestion. The jejunum primary function is absorption, where sugars, amino acids, and fatty acids are absorbed. The ileum absorbs nutrients that did not get absorbed by the jejunum, with important nutrients being vitamin B12 and bile acids for reuse
C.ileum
Here also the function is absorption, not digestion.
The function of the ileum is mainly to absorb vitamin B12, bile salts, and any products of digestion that were not absorbed by the jejunum.
