a. A random number table is used to randomly pick a sample of 118 students from a population of 2000 students. I would group the numbers found in the random numbertable in groups of ________.
b. Here is the row I use from the random number table: 11029 39384 59382 31393 38388 37362 01836 2334…………………………….. We will use multiple labeling, such that each member of the population gets five labels. Please list the first five members of the sample of 118 students that I will include?
Please show work for B. The answer is 1102, 1393, 459, 1823, 1838 but I dont know how to get it. Thank you!
a:
Since there are total 2000 students so we need to give numbers to student from 0001 to 2000. That is I would group the numbers found in the random numbertable in groups of 4 digits.
b;
Here we have 2000 students so first student will be selected is 0001, 2001, 4001, 6001, 8001 is selected. If we get the 4 digit number that is greater than 2000 so we need to subtract multiple of 2000 from this number to get the number of student to be selected.
The first four digits are 1102 so student with number 1102 is selected.
After than four digits are 9393 so student with number 9393 - 8000 = 1393 is selected.
After than four digits are 8459 so student with number 8459 - 8000 = 459 is selected.
After than four digits are 3823 so student with number 3823 - 2000 = 1823 is selected.
After than four digits are 1393. Since this student already selected so we need to ignore this student.
After than four digits are 3838 so student with number 3838 - 2000 = 1838 is selected.
hence, the student with numbers 1102, 1393, 459, 1823, 1838 are selected into the sample.
