How many valence electrons are in an atom of acetaminophen?
The valence electrons of a molecule can be calculated by adding the valence electrons of all individual atoms in the molecule.
Molecular formula of acetaminophen is C8H9NO2
Total valence electrons = 8 x 4 + 9 x 1 + 1 x 5 + 2 x 6
= 32 + 9 + 5 + 12
= 58
Total number of valence electrons = 24 x 2 + 5 x 2
= 48 + 10 = 58
