14.4 General Kleinherbst is concerned with the VD (venereal disease) epidemic among soldiers in Europe. At a non-routine inspection of 100 troops, 31 were found to have VD. Kleinherbst requires all troops to view the award-winning film VD: Just between Friends. At another inspection 180 days later, Kleinherbst finds that 43 of the 200 troops inspected have VD. What can you say about the program statistically, managerially, and from a research design point of view?

Solutions

Expert Solution

sol:
Do Hypothesis test for difference in proportions

Null hypothesis:

there is no difference in proportion of soldiers with VD before and after inspection

Ho:p1=p2

Alternative Hypothesis:

H1:p1 ≠ p2

level of significance=0.05

Test statistic:

p^=31+43/100+200

=0.37

z=(31/100)-(43/200)-0/sqrt[0.37(1-0.37)(1/100+1/200)]

z=1.61

The P-Value is 0.107398.

0.107>0.005
The result is not significant at p < 0.05.

Accept Null Hypothesis

Conclusion :-

There is no statistical evidence at 0.05 level of significance that he VD (venereal disease) before and after watching the award-winning film VD remains same.No change.
