For these different type of red blood cells , please include how they would look under the microscope. Examples include talking about size, shape, color or the cell/center of the cells. Also any abnormalities to them and any other observations would be helpful!
Pernicious Anemia
Iron Deficiency Anemia
Thalassemia Major
Ovalcytosis
Spherocytosis
Hemoglobin C
1. Pernicious anemia: this cause due to the deficiency of B12 vitamin. The red blood cells in pernicious anemia are malformed, enlarged, dark red in color, along with the hyper segmented neutrophiles.
2. Iron deficiency anemia: this causes due to the deficiency of iron. The red blood cells in iron deficiency nemia are small, oval shaped with pale center.
3. Thalassemia major: it is an inherited form of hemolytic anemia. The red blood cells in thalassemia major are malformed, small, pale and abnormally shaped.
4. Ovalcytosis: the red blood cells are oval to elliptical in shaped. They are rich in hemoglobin. They have abnormally large number of erythrocytes.
5. Spherocytosis: the red blood cells are spheroidal in shape with less surface tension. They have decreased hemoglobin. They have no central pallor.
6. Hemoglobin C: red blood cells are hexagonal crystals which may be intracellular or extracellular.
