Fetal Pig
Arteries of lower trunk
-WHAT ARE THE STRUCTURES THAT THE RENAL ARTERIES ARE SUPPLYING BLOOD TO?
-ARE THE DEEP ARTERY OF THE THIGH AND THE FEMORAL ARTERY IN THE PIG SIMILAR OR DIFFERENT TO THOSE IN YOU LEG?
-ARE THE UMBILICAL ARTERIES CARRYING BLOOD FROM FETUS TO
PLACENTA, OR FROM PLACENTA TO FETUS?
-BASED ON YOUR ANSWER ABOVE, IS THE BLOOD IN THE UMBILICAL
ARTERIES OXYGEN-RICH OR OXYGEN POOR?
-FINALLY, WHAT HAPPENS TO THE UMBILICAL ARTERIES AFTER
BIRTH?
Veins of the lower trunk
-WHAT CHAMBER OF THE HEART DOES THE VENA CAVA DELIVER BLOOD TO?
-HOW MANY HEPATIC VEINS CAN YOU SEE ENTERING THE VENA CAVA?
-WHAT ARE THE CHARACTERISTICS OF THE BLOOD (OXYGEN AND NUTRIENT CONTENT) IN THE UMBILICAL VEIN?
Nervous System
-WHY ARE THESE ENLARGEMENTS PRESENT ALONG THE SPINAL COLUMN?
-WHAT DOES ‘CAUDA EQUINA’ MEAN...AND WHY IS IT APPROPRIATE NAME FOR THESE NEURONS?
Genetically pig is closely related to human beings. Except that pig has more subcutaneous fat and bones are underdeveloped (cartilage) almost all the functions remains the same.
ARTERIES OF LOWRR TRUNK :
1. KIDNEYS
2.YES, FETAL PIG DEEP ARTERY OF THIGH AND FEMORAL ARTERY ARE SIMILAR TO OURS .
3. Umbilical arteries carry blood from FETUS TO PLACENTA
4. Blood in umbilical arteries is OXYGEN POOR.
5. Initially umbilical arteries contract to minimise blood loss from fetus to placenta . Then the distal part of umbilical arteries are converted into fibrous ligaments. The proximal part of the umbilical arteries persist and supply urinary bladder.
VEINS OF LOWER TRUNK :
6. Venacava deliveres blood to RIGHT ATRIUM of heart.
7. One hepatic vein is seen entering the inferior venacava.
8. Umbilical vein carries oxygenated from from placenta to fetus. So it is OXYGEN AND NUTRIENT RICH.
NERVOUS SYSTEM:
9. The enlargements of spinal cord are a result from enlargement of gray matter that contains nerves neccessary to operate the limbs. Cervical and lumbar enlargements are present.
10. Cauda eqina refers to a bundle of nerves from lumbar and sacral region that branch off to the bottom of spinal cord like a HORSE TAIL. It is appropriate name for these neurons because they resemble the horse tail.
