The element Mn has how many valence electrons? Please explain in detail why and how.
Mn (Manganese) atomic number is 25.
Electronic configuration is 1s22s22p63s23p64s23d5
In generally octet configuration is stable. If element obeys the 2, 10, 18, 36… electrons that is stable due to zero group electronic configuration. Ar element is stable. Atomic number is 18 with 18 electrons. Therefore 25-18 = 7 electrons are valence electrons.
[Ar]4s23d5
Therefore valence electrons are 7.
In generally valence electrons for transition metal are ns and (n-1)d electrons. these electrons only involved in bonding.
Therefore ns is 4s and (n-1) is 3d. then 4s and 3d electrons are valence electrons i.e. 2+5 = 7.
