Write an essay (one page maximum) on the economic conditions of one developing country of your choice (or one poor community in a developed country). Explain why you believe that the chosen country is not developed and how the development in that country can be achieved.
Growth and development of a country depend on a variety of factors including economic and non-economic. The basic requirement for a country to progress on the path of development is its natural resources. Pakistan is resource rich country with abundance of mineral and fuels, widely irrigated cultivable land and agriculture etc.
Despite being blessed with fertile agricultural and abundance of minerals and other natural resources and a sound industrial base comprising of textiles and clothing, cotton ginning factories, sugarcane mills etc. Pakistan is not growing at an expected rate.
Even though there are other economic reasons faced by any other developing country Pakistan has also suffered from several non-economic factors which are responsible for Pakistan’s low rate of economic growth. In this essay we mainly discuss two such problems.
First and foremost, the political instability that Pakistan has experienced since the day of its independence. Fighting among the provinces as well as a deep-rooted conflict with its neighboring country India prevented Pakistan from gaining real stability over the years. Pakistan’s political scenario has gone through several changes which oscillated between military rule and democratically elected governments. Such an instable political scenario causes hindrance in the process of growth and development in Pakistan and also prevented Pakistan from maintaining respectful relation with its neighbors and other countries of the world with the failure to develop sound foreign policies.
Second and probably the most important cause is the presence of several terrorist groups working actively in the region. This has a negative impact on the Pakistan’s economy both directly and indirectly. According to Global Terrorism Index (2016) out of 163 countries, Pakistan stands 4th worst hit. This is the main reason for Pakistan’s negative international image which has disrupted its relation with the rest of the countries of the world and has impacted negatively in various aspects such as tourism, FDI inflow etc.
