Filtrate: filtrate is the fluid which is formed by the filteration of blood in the glomerulus which comes via afferent arterioles.After filtration,the filtrate formed enters the bowman's capsule.

Urine: urine is the final product which is formed after reabsorption and secretion of the filtrate from the tubules of nephron.It forms in the collecting duct and drain into renal pelvis and finally enters ureters,urinary bladder,urethra and ultimately leaves the body.

Differences between filtrate and urine:

  • composition- filtrate has composition almost similar to plasma except for the blood cells.It contains glucose, amino acid, water,ions etc.Whereas urine contains urea,creatinine, water,ions and does not contain glucose and amino acids because they are reabsorbed from the filtrate from the tubule.
  • Physiology- filtrate Is formed at the rate of 180L/day which is a measure of GFR.But out of this only 1.5L/day average urine is formed because most of it is reabsorbed
