Please review the article about autism featured at NPR (National Public Radio) on 1/7/2010. Here is the link http://www.npr.org/templates/story/story.php?storyId=122256276 (Links to an external site.)Links to an external site. .
What did you learn from the article regarding application of regression models?
Regression analysis can be used to infer causal relationships between the independent and dependent variables.
Since we have studied autism So in this cse autism is dependent on so many independent variables. Here in most of the cases, autism is the dependent variable which is dependent on so many independent variables.
1. Parents (who are older, more educated, and white) can be considered as an independent variable.
2.where parents are more likely to obtain a diagnosis for their child
(a)children of parents who finished college were at least four times more likely to be diagnosed than children of parents who didn't finish high school
(b) more likely to be diagnosed if they were born in a community near a regional service
3. In many areas there are still a huge number of children with autism spectrum disorders who are slipping through the cracks.
There are other variables such as local pollution or chemical exposures which is not affecting the autism spectrum disorder (ASD) or affecting on a negligible basis.Study did not find any environmental explanation for higher autism rates. Also,if there are environmental factors, they're small.
