describe the total lung capacity columes

Solutions

Expert Solution

Total lung capacity(TLC): It is the measure of total air that lung can hold.or total volume of air at the end of maximum inspiration.

TLC =Residual volume(RV)+expiratory reserve volume(ERV)+Tidal volume(TV)+ inspiratory reserve volume(IRV)

Rv:volume of air remains in lunf after maximum forced expiration. This volume always remains in lung once a person has breathed in life after birth.

TV:Amount of air breath in /out during normal respiration.

ERV: Additional amount of air that can be exhaled after normal expiration

IRV:The additional amount of air that can be inhaled after normal inspiration.

At the surface, the average total lung capacity of human lungs is about 6 liters of air (~0.21 ft3). Free divers typically fill their lungs with air and hold their breath while they dive. Assuming that Boyle’s Law accurately reflects changes in the air volume in a free divers’ lungs, calculate the change in volume that would occur in a free diver’s lungs at the following depths below the surface of the ocean: 10m, 20m, 35m, 45m. Finally, the world...

Lung cancer care accounts for 20% of Medicare's total expenditures for cancer. Approximately $13 billion was spent on Lung Cancer care in the U.S. in 2014. Do you think it's fair that the government (Medicare) and private insurance companies must pay for the care and treatment for patients with lung cancer caused by smoking? Offer a possible solution.
