Samples are the representative of the population. Sample design refers to the process of selecting sample from the population. There are two type of sampling design one non-probability and other one is probability design.

In Non-probability design element do not have a known chance of being selected, please note known chance does not mean equal chance.
In probability design every element of the population has known chance of being selected as the sample.

As this is the case of probability design, where every element of the population has known chance of being selected, as give sample design seems OK but it can be improved as per below mention comment.

As all the credit card user are the population and can be selected as per systematic sampling design, for this arrange a data in order (ascending or descending) from smaller expenditure to larger expenditure or vise-versa. Once order is done follow the step to proceed further.

  1. First of all, a sample interval given by K=N/n is calculated, where N=the size of the population and n=the size of the sample.
  2. Random number selected from 1 to K let call it C.
  3. First element should be selected from the ordered population would be C, the next would be C+K, C+2K etc

Sample size: As a researcher we can take any arbitrary number for sample size but we can use statistically formation to choose the size of the sample.
