Eternal life is the one which has no beginning and no end. Eternal life is the life that if offered by God to all the mankind though his son, Jesus Christ. The Gospel of John is based on the central theme of eternal life. The life as per Gospel of John is both the present reality and the future of hope.
The life is unique in its nature and is in both quantity and quality and this can only come by knowing God which is possible only though his son, Jesus Christ. Eternal life is not used only in the quantitative sense which refers to the duration of life but also in qualitative sense which refers to the life where God’s people enjoy a life of a unique and a lot more higher character than the rest.
In Gospel of John, there is an undeniable relation between Jesus and the eternal life, which in fact can never be disputed. As per the Gospel of John, knowing God does not help you like present nor does it gives you eternal life. But in fact knowing God itself, is the eternal life. John in his Gospel says that “a person or whoever knows God in the present have an imperishable companionship with God which cannot be severed even after death. Therefore, it is only the faith in God that lead’s one to eternal life and nothing else.
In Gospel, John explains that to know Jesus is to know the God, which means that whoever knows Jesus, knows the God directly. And this is what links the eternal life with God and the son and ultimately states that eternal life is nothing but is to know the only true God and his son, Jesus Christ, whom the God has sent.
Jesus in John’s Gospel says that the one whosoever believes in me (Jesus) will still be alive, even after his death. The Gospel of John symbolizes eternal life as the one synonymous to knowing God and hence is critically important.
