Assume that a very good Natural Language Processing (NLP) system, called, say, ‘Whitman’ is available. Whitman can listen to speech and understand the context 98 to 99% of the time. It has a very complex vocabulary and has mastered the understanding of syntax and idiom. How could this system make a significant difference to the cost of care? How could it bend the cost curve? Give one clearly illustrated example.
Whitman could make a significant difference to the cost of care and it could bend the cost curve by identifying the patient's requirements by listening and understanding their speech and communication pattern and decode the message to the healthcare service providers, doctors, nurses etc which will help in effective treatment and also reduce significant costs for both the patients as well as the heathcare facilities. This Natural Language Processing (NLP) system could also help in establishing communication channels between patients and healthcare establishments and fulfill the requirements. For example, the patients who belong to different cultures and speak different languages could be benefitted through this system as communication channel gets established and cost of treatment also gets reduced due to availability of dedicated care as per patient requirements that can be understood and communicated through this system.
