1. What is the point of this essay?
The author talks about her experience in working in a restaurant, during her summer vacation before joining the college in order to save some money. She talks about various things that she did in the job such as serving people, playing drums, facilitating birthday parties etc. She was doing the job without any involvement. She wanted to become an English Teacher and she was counting her days to join the college and get rid of this routine and boring life.
2. Who was Sisyphus?
Sisyphus is a character in Greek mythology who was cursed by the Gods to roll a rock up to the mountain but every time before he reaches the top the rock would roll and fall. In the essay when she terms her routine task as Sisyphean.
3. Do you have an allusion, like Sisyphus, that you can add to your reflective essay?
I have an Achilles’ heel (One’s biggest weakness) that I keep postponing which is my greatest weakness. Achilles had the weakness that he would be killed only if he is hurt in this heal because when her mother dipped him in the river, she was holding his heel.
4. What makes her ending powerful?
She is finally free to pursue her dream education and she was also happy about ending a routine life. So that she could get into the adventures of a college life and become a teacher and live happily.
