Previous research shows that, in humans, the pelvic opening tends to be wider in females than males

1. Generate a hypothesis about what cause this pattern (pelvis wider in females than in males).

2. Describe the type or types of data you would ideally collect to test this hypothesis

3. Describe what hypothesis data might support the hypothesis (For example, the hypothesis would be supported if we found data that indicated....)

4 Describe what hypothetical data might regret the hypothesis and how would you rewrite your hypothesis to account for your findings and begin again.

Expert Solution

Female pelvic opening is wider than male.

Hypothesis: female have wide pelvic open due to complex reproductive arrangement for giving birth to baby and it will increase up to age 30.

Pelvic is a lower part of the body between abdomen and thigh. It is functionally involve in urogenital development and excretion. From the time of human evolution, females give birth to baby. Hence natural selection favours a wide arrangement of pelvic opening so that it will be easy to give birth. At the age of between 21 to 30 the pelvic become more and more wider in female. Because during this time females are sexually more active. After 35 years of age, it started to decrease in size (as assumed by some of the hypothesis).

Different age group of female ranging from 21 to 40 year and males may select for studying this hypothesis. After selecting population size of study, data will be collected. Depending on age and size of pelvic for both male and female. We can draw a graph years of age versus size of pelvic. It will give the strength to our hypothesis.

If size of pelvic will increase with increasing age up to 30 years in female and remain normal in male, we can say our hypothesis is correct.

If our data is not in accordance with hypothesis, pelvic size in female is not larger than male than our hypothesis is wrong.

Lets take a example to test our hypothesis

Average pelvic length of female pelvic is 13cm (assumed) and male pelvic size is 10 cm.

Are groups are 20, 25,30,35,40

as shown in a graph average length is 13 cm but it will increase till the age of 30 and than after it will decrease. if our study data will be in accrdance with this assumption than our hypothesis is correct. otherwise it will be wrong. this graph and data are just for understanding not a study data.
