Solutions

Expert Solution

B.) Enter the net ionic equation representing aqueous acetic acid neutralized by aqueous barium hydroxide.

Answer: CH3COOH (aq) + OH- (aq) ------> CH3COO-(aq) + H2O(l)

Since acetic acid is a weak acid, it must appear in the equation, not just as H+. Barium hydroxide is a strong base, so the barium is a spectator.

C.) Enter the molecular equation representing solid chromium (III) hydroxide reacting with nitrous acid.

Answer: Cr(OH)3(s) + 3HNO2(aq) → Cr(NO2)3(aq) + 3H2O(l)

D.) Enter the net ionic equation representing solid chromium (III) hydroxide reacting with nitrous acid. Nitrite is soluble.

Answer: Cr(OH)3(s) + 3HNO2(aq) → Cr3+(aq) + 3NO2(aq) + 3H2O(l)

E.) Enter the molecular equation representing aqueous nitric acid and aqueous ammonia reacting.

Answer: HNO3(aq) + NH3(aq) --> NH4NO3(aq)

F.) Enter the net ionic equation representing aqueous nitric acid and aqueous ammonia reacting. Nitrate ion is spectator ion.

Answer: H+(aq) + NH3(aq) --> NH4+(aq)

during net ionic equation expression spectator ions (OR common aq ions at both sides should omit)
