We have learned about conditioning in class. There are countless ways that we encounter condition in everyday life. This assignment requires that you examine conditioning (either classical or operant) as you’ve experienced it. Provide five examples of conditioning from your own life with a detailed description of stimulus/response and reinforcement patterns.

Expert Solution

  • One common example of my life is,eating dinner at 9pm. It has been classically conditioned since childhood that dinner needs to be eaten at 9pm. So even if I am not hungry I would still eat at the same time and being doing this ever since. Food is served on the table at 9 and we are all ready to eat it.
  • Pay check is another reinforcement in life. Its a positive reinforcer and motivates all of us including me to go to my job and work hard. The prospect of getting rewards encourages everyone to work harder and produce better results. On the other hand, not getting paid for the amount of effort put-in discourages anyone from work. No one likes to work for free.
  • During my childhood, I failed twice and because of that I was reprimanded by my parents and teachers. My parents grounded me and stopped giving me my pocket money until i scored well. That situation for almost two years made me change my behaviour and study harder just to avoid that punishment.
  • Getting criticized in front of the whole office by my boss and having certain privileges taken away as a consequence to my irresponsible behavior at work once, has motivated me to stay in line and be more sincere.
  • Responding with baseless suspicion towards domestic help on an event of robbery , rather than to evidence indicating they may be guilty. Classical conditioning example.

1. We have learned in this class that the steady condition is given as: sf (k) = (n + S + g)k . Use this condition for steady state to find the steady state (long run) equilibrium values of capital per effective worker, k* , output per effective worker, y* ; consumption per effective worker, c* ; and investment per effective worker, i* , for this economy. 2. Think back to all of the ways we have learned to analyze structures by hand in this class. Now recall the SAP2000 assignments and any other software program we may have used (excel, maybe Mathcad or MatLab). Using at least 10 sentences, discuss how technology is making it easier and making it harder to complete structural analysis tasks. In what way does technology present new challenges? What are some of the advantages and disadvantages?

In class we learned about Kate, a bungee jumper with mass ? = 50.0 kg who jumps off a bridge of height ℎ = 25.0 m above a river. After she jumps, the bungee cord – which behaves as an ideal spring with spring constant ? = 28.5 N/m – stretches to a new equilibrium with length ?? = 20.0 m (since this is the new equilibrium, let us refer to it as ? = 0 in Hooke’s law and...

One of the lessons we have learned in class is that raising the minimum wage would put more employment pressure on competitively disadvantaged, unskilled workers. Furthermore, many older Americans do not have enough savings or pension for them to retire. To help resolve this problem, the government has proposed that it will provide subsidies to companies hiring workers aged 65+. Given what you have learned about subsidies, who (employer or employee) in reality is receiving the subsidies? Start your analysis...

6. In class, we learned about both Type I and Type II diabetes. Both of these diseases are due to inappropriate and dysregulated immune responses. Although both of these diseases are due to failures in insulin signaling, the immune mechanisms in the two types of diabetes are quite different. Explain how the immune system contributes to disease in Type I vs. Type II diabetes, being clear about the differences in immunological pathways and elements in these two conditions.
