Using your knowledge of electrostatic potential and acid strength, predict whether lactic acid would have a lower or higher electrostatic potential than Nitric Acid, HNO3. Explain.
A correlation between electrostatic potential and acid strength exists due to the acids ability to be a proton donor and the dissociation of the aqueous soltuion.Lactic acid is weak acid dissociation and proton donor is very less.
It is electrostatic potential and acid strength is very less. HNO3 is strong acid becuase of it is completely ionisable and it has more electrostatic potential and acid strength.
Lactic acid would have a lower electrostatic potential than Nitric Acid, HNO3 because of latic acid is weak acid than HNO3
A correlation between electrostatic potential and acid strength exists due to the acids ability to be a proton donor, and the dissociation of the aqueous solution. The lower the pKa the stronger the acid because the acid is more electronegative making the acid more stable, and causing the electrostatic potential to therefore increase. Electrostatic potential has to do with the charge of the solution.
