Solutions

Expert Solution

Q1. The correct option is: A (Oxaloacetate and pyruvate)

Explanation: In case of C4 plants

  • Photosynthesis in the leaves of C4 plants involves two cell types: Mesophyll and bundle-sheath cells. In mesophyll cell the carbon gets fixed forming the stable compound oxaloacetate and moves to bundle-sheath cell and enters calvin cycle there so the end prooduct for C4 planta is oxaloacetate.
  • CAM pathway is an adaptation evolved in some plants to arid conditions (Cactus and Pine apple), whose stomata opens during night time allowing CO2 to enter and be fixed as organic acids(malic acid) that are stored in vacuoles and closes during day time to reduce evopotranspiration. Therefore malic acid that is stored in the night gets converted to pyruvate in the day.
