In this assignment you need to spend some time becoming familiar with the job description. Once you have become familiar with it, you need to evaluate the job using the job evaluation instrument included with this assignment. Based on the job description and job evaluation instrument, you need to select the level in the instrument that most closely matches what is in the job description. Furthermore, if it is unclear what the best match is, you need to indicate this by inserting comments into that section of this instrument in bold lettering indicating your concerns. If there are problems with the instrument that make it challenging to accurately evaluate a job, then insert those comments in bold as well. Otherwise, indicate which level you would assign by highlighting the level by underlining that level and putting the text in bold.

CWS Therapist Job Evaluation:

KNOWLEDGE RELATED FACTORS:

1. EDUCATION: Level of formal schooling required to perform the job.

10 pts. -- no particular requirements for the position

70 pts. -- HS graduate or equivalent

130 pts. -- college degree

190 pts. -- advanced degree required (i.e., MS/MBA/JD) - The Job asks for a masters' degree, hence a post-graduation is needed

2. EXPERIENCE: Prior experience/background acquired from the performance of the same or closely related positions.

10 pts. -- no prior experience required

70 pts. -- 1 to 3 years

130 pts. -- 4 to 5 years

190 pts. – 6 or more years

It says minimum 1000 hours of work at-least in the question. Considering 5 days a week, and each day 8 hours of work. We see 40 hours work per week. Therefore, total weeks= 1000/40= 25 weeks. This is around half year. So we can keep this in the category of 1-3 years, and give 70 points.

3. CERTIFICATION/LICENSES REQUIRED: Additional knowledge requirements apart from formal education & experience.

10 pts. -- no additional certification or licenses required - the job does not ask for any other certifications or licences

60 pts. -- related to professional area (i.e., nurses or aides, CPA)

110 pts. -- related to management (i.e., home administrator)

TECHNICAL REQUIREMENTS (general): - This evaluation method is a bit unclear according to the job, as no specifics are mentioned to evaluate

1. NUMBER OF PEOPLE SUPERVISED: Refers to the direct reporting relationship required by the job.

10 pts. – none

60 pts. - supervises 1 – 3 employees

110 pts. -- supervises 4 – 6 employees

160 pts. – supervises 7 or more employees

In professional development, the job requires to assist in supervising, as no specific number is given here, we can assume the number to be say 1-3, as there is just assistance needed. Hence 60 points here.

2. LEGAL COMPLIANCE: Refers to the degree to which job incumbents must be aware of and comply with relevant statutes.

10 pts. -- no particular requirements for the position

50 pts. -- must work within legal boundaries prescribed within one’s profession

90 pts. -- monitors the organization for legal compliance

According to the question, in point 7, it is mentioned that job requires the employee to comply with all the legalities and ethics of the business. But, it does not require the employee to monitor the organization for legal compliance. Hence, we give this 50 points.

3. QUALITY REQUIREMENTS: Refers to the interactions with the quality assurance systems in place- This evaluation method is a bit unclear according to the job, as no specifics are mentioned to evaluate

10 pts. -- own work must be performed in a quality manner

60 pts. -- is responsible for the quality of one unit/department

110 pts. -- is responsible for the quality of two or more units

The question says-  Quality Enhancement: Contributes to quality enhancement through active participation in Quality Enhancement activities. This implies that one must not only work with quality, but also participate in the quality enhancement task. Hence, we can say that it means that the employee is atleast responsible for the quality of one unit/department. Hence-60 points

OTHER FACTORS:

1. CENTRALITY OF JOB: As measured by the number of other persons who can perform all of the job duties listed- This evaluation method is a bit unclear according to the job, as no specifics are mentioned to evaluate

10 pts. – 4 or more persons available

50 pts. -- 2 to 3 persons available

90 pts. – 1 person available

130 pts. -- no one else available

The question says-Works with caseworker and family team. We can assume this to be 4 or more person available (caseworker + Family team). Hence, 10 points

2. PHYSICAL DEMANDS: Refers to exposure to physical demands on the job.

a. lifting - This evaluation method is a bit unclear according to the job, as no specifics are mentioned to evaluate

5 pts. -- no exposure/none required

10 pts. – required to lift up to 25 pounds

15 pts. – required to lift up to 50 pounds

20 pts. – required to lift up to 75 pounds

25 pts. – required to lift 76 or more pounds

The question says- The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 25 pounds. Hence this is 10 points

b. pushing - This evaluation method is a bit unclear according to the job, as no specifics are mentioned to evaluate

5 pts. -- no exposure

10 pts. -- rarely required

15 pts. -- occasionally required

20 pts. --frequently required

We can assume that the job would rarely require pushing, as question does not mention specifically, but just because physical activities are required, so we can say it might be rarely required. Hence 10 points

c. pulling- This evaluation method is a bit unclear according to the job, as no specifics are mentioned to evaluate

5 pts. -- no exposure

10 pts. -- rarely required

15 pts. -- occasionally required

20 pts. --frequently required

We can assume that the job would rarely require pulling, as question does not mention specifically, but just because physical activities are required, so we can say it might be rarely required. Hence 10 points

Total points = 190+70+10+60+50+60+10+10+10+10= 480 points in total
