The organic solvent containing organic compounds should be first washed with saturated brine solution to remove most of the water from it.
Thereafter, put the organic layer in a conical flask of relatively larger size. Then using spatula put small portions of anhydrous sodium sulfate (Na2SO4) or anhydrous Magnesium sulfate (MgSO4) and manually swirl the solution vigorously. Then again add small portion of the anhydrous salt and swirl. Keep adding and repeating the procedure, till you observe that the added salt (Na2SO4 or MgSO4) do not stick to each other and they settle down in the base of conical flask not as a lump, but as dry powder.
After that filter off the solid salt from the solution using fluted fiter paper or buchner flask under vacuum.
