What are the differences between embryonic stem cells and oocytes?
Embryonic stem cells(ESCs)
-EBCs are cells derived from the inner cell mass of blastocyst, an early stage preimplantation embryo.
-human embryo reach a blastocyst stage 4-5 days post fertilization, at which time they consist of 50-150 cells
-ESCs are pluripotent that is they are able to generate into all cell types in the body
-because of there unlimited capacity of self renewal ESC therapies have been proposed for regenerative medicine and tissue replacement after injury or disease. Diseases related to blood and immune system, cancers, genetic disorders are treated due to there pluripotency.
OOcyte
OOcyte is a female germ cell involved in reproduction. It is an immature ovum or egg cell.
.it is produced in ovary during female gametogenesis
The female germ cell produce a primordial germ cell which then under goes mitosis forming oogonia.
-oocyte is a form of genetic material that can be collected for cryoconservation.
- oocyte is to become fertilized and ultimately grow in to fully functioning organism.
