How to measure safety practices against performance in oil and gas industry
Performance and safety practices are two different things but in an industry like oil and gas industry safety practices do have a great influence on the productivity of the employee. There are number of safety hazards built in the operations of the oil, gas and related energy industries that have the potential to cause danger to life, property, and the environment if not controlled or properly managed. As a result, each company has its own safety measures and regulation to guide its operation.Hence safety practices are said as guidelines, rules, policies, programs, and procedures aimed at ensuring accident free workplace so that the employees can work effectively without any fear and give theor full potential towards the organizational goals.As per Maslow's Need theory he stated human has series of needs some of which must be met before they can turn their attention toward others and hence safety needs comes after psychological needs(air,water,food,shelter ,needs for living basically) where personal security needs are very important other wise he wont be able to move forward.In case of Oil and gas Industry safety needs comes with psychological needs and if it is not fulfilled the employee wont be able to perform as expected.
Good safety practice is primarily requirement in this industry inorder to reduce accidents and any other forms of losses hence good safety practices includes- provision of personal protective equipment for the employees as well as the workers , safety meetings to provide regular update on every measures, international safety auditing, safety inspections and use of safety manuals, can affect the image of the organization and its goodwill in the market,These safety practices will promote smooth flow of operations in the company and ensures the organization do not suffer unnecessary financial losses as a result of hazards, loss of property or damage to the environment.This will not only reduce the cost of operation but will ensures the organization do not suffer unnecessary financial losses as a result of hazards, loss of property or damage to the environment.Measurement of performance is like how well has an organization perform.
