Business faculty at a prestigious community college wanted to evaluate the infuence of Netflix on student academic performance. After careful consideration, the faculty decided to conduct a prelimary study to see if they could justify a more detailed analysis. The preliminary study follows:

Sixty (60) students were selected for two sections of a Business Adminstration class. The students were selected based on their previous performance in an introductory level course. In order to enroll in one of the sections, students had to earn an 85 or higher in the introductory course.

The students in Section 1 agreed to spend at least 15 hours per week preparing for class. During the 15 hours, the students were required to work either in the library or a comparable, on-campus study location that was completely free of distractions (i.e., no smartphones, musical devices, or any other digital media).

The students in Section 2 were given free, unlimited access to Netflix and encouraged to use their account as much as possible when not preparing for class. The students were not required to spend any time preparing for class.

Both sections were taught by the same professor using the same materials. Great care was taken to insure that both classes received approximately the same course content at the same time.

The following data shows the test scores for each student on the first test:

Solutions

Expert Solution

Ans :

1) It's a Quantitativa data (i.e. it is measurable and expressed as numbers)

2) Nominal Scale (to identify or cassify an object)

3) Ratio

4) sample data (Because there are millions of people who are using netflix but we are taking only 60 observations from whole population)

5)last entry in section 2 is 94-1

6)

7) AM for section 1 is 90.83

AM for section 2 is 70.57 ( by using excel command "Average")

8) median for section 1 is 91

median for section 2 is 81 (by using excel command "Median")

9) Mode for section 1 is 100

mode for section 2 is 87 (from frequency table given in question 5)

note: mode is the value having maximum frequency.

10) As section 1 has only one mode

therefore section 1 is unimodel

11) As section 2 has only one mode

therefore section 2 is unimodel

12) Section 1:

25th percentile is 84

75th percentile is 97.25 (by using excel command "Percentile.exc")

13) Section 2:

25th percentile is 70.75

75th percentile is 87.25 (by using excel command "Percentile.exc")

thank you !
