What are your images of poverty, homelessness and what comes to your mind when you think about the demographic diversity in your home community? In your state? In the United States? and how does it related to the cycle of poverty?

  • America’s homeless population is as diverse as its citizens. The homeless sub-culture of America is an eclectic group of people with a certain set of beliefs, social forms, and or way of life of a set of people in a certain time frame. It is important to remember that homeless people make up a diverse group which includes all religious sects, all ethnics, and men women and families from all walks of life.
  • People  face frigid winter temperatures, bitter wind, rain, and snow, while they search for a warm and well-lighted area to reduce the likelihood of falling victim to criminal activity.
  • Despite employment opportunities people are living below poverty levels. And yes,this has lead to a vicious cycle of poverty wherein umemployment has made people poor,leading to no shelter or food or even education for their children.
  • In our world, it is virtually impossible to be employed or earn money without having a few things;an initial pool of money and education / skills.This newly created poor generation cannot, again, provide their children with such basic resources, and so their children will again be, poor.
  • Poor people need a certain amount of money to buy basic things like food, medical care, gasoline, rent, etc, so many of them live paycheck to paycheck. But it's not just about what you earn, it's about what you spend.
  • Poor economic policy is one facet why there is poverty. Also,most people have poor money management skills, and this includes having no emergency fund. An emergency fund helps people have choices in an emergency.
  • Poor people, even if they have the skills, experience, and the degree, don't have as many business connections as the rest of the population. They have more trouble getting that inside information to get that job that hasn't been advertised yet. This hurts them when it comes to finding a job and so this cycle seems never ending.
