Cortical bone is also known as a compact bone, this bone is one
of the 2 types of bone found in human body one is compact and the
other one is cancellous(spongy) is always found in deep cortical
bone and serves as an internal support structure.
- In compact part, it has some functional units and this
functional units we called as asteon.
- Asteons sometimes called as haversian system and thats because
of their shape and it runs parallel to the first axis of the
bone.
- In osteon we can find collagen fibers within bone matrix run in
seperate direction which is actaually provide torsion strength to
the bone.
- we have haversion canal at the cetre of each osteon so we acn
call it as central canal. it supplies oxygen to blood cells and
nerves.
- volkmann's canal also there in cortial at right angle to the
central, this going to allow all of the connection for the
haversian system.
- canaliculi connects the lacunae and osteocytes in cortial.
we can say that cortaial is very strong from oueside and have a
spongy structure from inside so it supports for bending,
compression , tension, torsion.
