​​​​The genotypes are denoted by the alleles which can be either heterozygous or homozygous to each other. During gamete production, the alleles are separated and distributed in the gametes. The total number of types of gametes can be calculated by using the formula-- 2^n. Here, n represents the number of heterozygous allele pairs.

For example, suppose the genotype is CcDD. Here, Cc is the heterozygous( dissimilar) pair. Hence, 2^n= 2^1=2. Therefore, 2 types of gametes will be produced which are CD and cD.
