what are the three key componments of herdonism accordign to russ shafer-landau?
Answer- The concept of Hedonism refers that pleasure and happiness are the most important intrinsic goods of human life. According to ethical hedonism, all people have the right to achieve the highest amount of pleasure. Many philosphers have worked and given their ideas regarding human happiness. One of them is Russ Shafer Landau who was born in 1963 and presently working as professor of Philosphy at the University North Carolina. According to Landau," Happiness is like a butterfly, the more you pursue it, the more it eludes you.Be still and let it come to you." Whenever we wait for the happiness, it does not come to us but when we stop waiting, the happiness magically enters in our life. Landau described the hedonism by giving the explanation of happiness.
He said that happiness which is based on false beliefs gives less pleasure in comparison to the happiness which is based on true beliefs. He described that if hedonism is true, then autonomy will play an important part to give us pleasure. Autonomy directly contributes to a good life even when it fails to make us happy. According to him if autonomy is not a key feature of someone's life than hedonism is false. Landau focussed on the concept of hedonism that it is only true when happiness is intrinsically good for people.
