(a) A soda maker conducted a survey in 3 schools to see if children liked their brand over a generic soda. Results are in table
School | Soda maker | Generic brand |
School 1 | 232 | 168 |
School 2 | 260 | 240 |
School 3 | 197 | 203 |
Using .05 level find out if the true amount of children liked the soda makers soda over the generic kind.
Step 1:
H0: Null Hypothesis: ( the children did not like the soda makers soda over the generic kind.)
HA: Alternative Hypothesis: ( the children liked the soda makers soda over the generic kind.) (Claim)
Step 2:
From the given data, the following statistics are calculated:
Sample 1: Soda maker:
n1 = 3
1 = 689/3 = 229.6667
s1= 31.5647
Sample 2: Generic brand
n2 = 3
2 = 611/3 = 203.6667
s2 = 36.0046
Step 3:
Pooled Standard Deviation is given by:
Test Statistic is given by:
Step 4:
df = 3 + 3 - 2 = 4
= 0.05
From Table, critical value of t = 2.132
Since calculated value of t is less than critical value of t, the difference is not significant. Fail to reject null hypothesis.
Step 5:
Conclusion:
The data do not support the claim that the children liked the soda
makers soda over the generic kind.
