Solutions

Expert Solution

We will choose the construct title as Scale for Depression. Depression plays a major role in affecting individuals worldwide causing a disability and disease burden. Depression should be taken into a public health concern due to the drastic effects it causes to the people, especially women. Those individuals suffering from depression undergo extreme anxiety levels and poor relations with their family.

Individuals who “possess” the construct or those who may score high on a scale are the individuals suffering from high levels of anxiety, suicidality, substance use. According to the numerous research results, women are more prone to score high on a scale.

Individuals who might score low on the same construct are the individuals who are happy, sociable and less worried.

For example, consider a sample of 20 individuals where the number of occurrence of depression is observed and the frequency measures the level of depression in them. A frequency of 2 or higher will be considered a serious concern for an individual depression.

Rubin’s Love Scale and Rubin’s Liking Scale (search it) Is this test measuring the construct of love? How would you go about validating this measure? How does it relate to discriminant validity? (e.g., how does it discriminate between love and like? Love and lust? Love and hate?) How does it relate to predictive validity? (e.g., what would be outcome measures for how much a couple is in love?)

A scale can be reliable and yet not valid. Provide an example of such a scale that is different than the one found in the text. Remember that a scale means a type of measure such as personality inventory, a skills inventory, a norming chart. DO NOT PROVIDE AN EXAMPLE OF A SCALE THAT WEIGHS SOMETHING (can you tell that many students have done that in the past?). Include in your answer why you selected or created this particular example.
