You have been asked to investigate college students’ attitudes toward and usage of various social media, as well as their thoughts about the use of social media for marketing purposes. What type of qualitative research technique would you use, and would it be appropriate to combine multiple techniques?

What is the purpose of a projective test? What major factors should be considered in using a projective technique?

Solutions

Expert Solution

The qualitative research technique is best suitable to know the college student’s attitude towards social media is Focus group. Focus group is basically used to generate the collective data about one certain topic \ subject. They are used to gather the understanding of people experience and their perspective towards them. This method gives complete details of what ever body thinks of social media and what are their views and it also gives advantages and disadvantages which gives the ample amount of information to do a proper analysis.

Using multiple techniques to research on one particular matter may not be suitable. Each different technique gives different type of result since the methods are going to be different. There are chances that people who wants to gather one appropriate information may confuse them. Hence it is not suggested to apply multiple technique. If someone wants to draw a result of each specific technique and find the best way out of it may be fine to apply multiple technique.

The purpose of the projective test is to uncover the hidden emotion and conflicts by taking the responses from ambiguous scenes or images from an individual or a group. There are 3 main factors which needs to be considered to conduct the projective technique,

  1. Choosing the right audience – the test cannot be successful unless the right kind of audiences are selected. Different set of audience makes the result unappropriate

  2. How many audience required – the people conducting the test needs to know the how many people needs to be tested looking at the span of time to ensure the accuracy of the test.

  3. How to execute – After choosing the right audience, it also becomes important to make sus the methods the test is going to be conducted
