Conceptually describe how you would evaluate the initial grade of the new segmental culvert so that in its final condition (i.e. after all settlement is complete) it slopes with a 4% grade. The culvert will be installed prior to construction of the embankment (i.e. the embankment will be filled over the culvert).

There is no particular calculations to find the initial slope for culvert why because the initial and final slope are same. But the problem is we have to maintain same slope from starting to ending.

We have to fallow some procedure to maintain constant slope that is at the starting before place the culvert pipes we have to prepare a concrete bed with required slope and allow to settle. After complete curing process we have to place the pipes and check for the slope and keep the sides rigidly to make sure that it is unaltered and then filling should be happened layer by layer with out taking much time. Until the filling reach to the formation level.
