Experiment: Synthesis and Characterization of a Metal-Organic Framework (MOF)

I)

What does it mean to ‘activate’ a MOF?

Solutions

Expert Solution

First before understanding activation of metal organic framework we first have to understand what is MOF (METAL ORGANIC FRAMEWORK)

MOF consists of metal ion or group of metal ions attached to organic linkages with coordinate bonds this coordinate bonds have normal strength neither too strong nor too weak.this MOF have some unique features which makes them of use in many scenarios the most imp among them is their uniform porosity and large surface area.

what is activation of MOF-

the important feature of MOF is its porosity but to have its permanent porocity it must have to activated first

After its activation the uniform porosity in the MOF will become permanent and it will be of use for different purposes.

Activation of MOF means that we have to remove extra molecules which are used for the making of MOF or the solvents used in the process. But the main precaution we have to take here is it should be structurally stable after the process. So that we will have uniform porosity at the end of this process.

In general activation of anything means to activate the desired properties of a certain molecule by some physical or chemical processes. In this case the desired property of MOF is permanent uniform porosity.

I hope this helps. If it helps a thums up would be appreciated and if you want more detailed explanation ask in the comment section below.
