1.a. The following data represent the birth weights of siblings born to six different mothers
Data
Birth weight
Mother Child 1 Child 2 Child 3 Child 4
1 6.4 6.9 6.7 7.1
2 8.5 7.8 7.8 8.3
3 7.6 8.7 9.9 8.2
4 5.3 6.7 7.5 6.4
5 6.2 5.6 6.4 5.5
6 7 7.8 8.6 6.6
Use an appropriate method to test if there is a significant difference in the birth weight of siblings.
1.b. Suppose we wish to test if there is a difference in the distribution of abnormalities among clinical centers, Based on the following data, is there evidence of a significant
relationship between the types of abnormalities and clinical center? = 0:10
Data
Type of abnormality
Trisomy 21 Trisomy 18 Trisomy 13
Center A 107 70 23
Center B 65 62 23
Center 3 60 32 8
ANOVA is used to test if there is a significant difference in the birth weights of siblings
Null Hypothesis (H0) : There is no significant difference in the birth weights of siblings.
Alternate Hypothesis (H1) : There is a significant difference in the birth weights of siblings.
Here we find out that F-calculated is 0.3046 and F-tabulated is 2.380087
Therefore we accept the null hypothesis and concludes that there is no significant difference among the weights of siblings.
Now what if the null hypothesis is not accepted
Based on the given data there is no evidence of having a significant relaationship between the types of abnormalities and clinical center because the null hypothesis is accepted beacuse the value of f cat is small as comapred to f tabulated.
