Intersexual

Solutions

Expert Solution

ANSWER - Intrasexual selection.

Sexual selection, a kind of natural selection where one sex prefers a specific characteristic in an individual of the other sex. Acording to darwin, sexual selection pattern operates only on one of the two sex that is largely on male (for example colorful and long feather in peacock, such ornamental haracter attracts the female for mating), similarly in kangroos with big arm and shoulder muscles also attract female. Pattern of forlimb musculature in male kangaroos plays an improtant role in the attract of the female kangaroos and mating occurs. Scuh type of selection for mating in kangaroos is known as intrasexual selection.

Intrasexual selection occurs within the same sex mbembers where competeison occurs between males in common. The trait body size in kangaroos is to potential sexual pattern.

[Note- Sexual selection is associated with reproduction while Natural selection concern survival and reproduction.]

Explanation of incorrect options -

Stablizing selection - Such selection pressure select the avarage value of the characters not the extreme values in the population by favouring the avarage individuals and the population remain more or less genetically constant that is the mutaion and variation are not favoured. For example hight, body weight, weight of baby during birth, etc.

Interselection -  Intersexual selection occurs between the sex. It is the result of interections of females and males of a species.

Natural selection: Natural selection represent different survival and reproduction of the individuals of different phenotype.

The military often uses high-density metals in munitions because these metals are better able to penetrate armor. Magness (1994) conducted an obserational study of seven different high-density metals in which he measured the Rockwell hardness (the regressor) and the Young's Modulus (the response) for a single specimen for each metal. The Young's Modulus is the ratio of simple tension stress to the resulting strain parallel to the tension. Normally, we expect Young's modulus to increase as the Rockwell hardness increases....

A botanist has produced a new variety of hybrid wheat that is better able to withstand drought than other varieties. The botanist knows that for the parent plants, the proportion of seeds germinating is 80%. The proportion of seeds germinating for the hybrid variety is unknown, but the botanist claims that it is 80%. To test this claim, 400 seeds from the hybrid plant are tested, and it is found that 312 germinate. Use a 5% level of significance to...

Body size typically has an effect on an individual's resting heart rate, with increased body mass negatively correlated with heart rate. Your results are listed in this table. Sex Age Group Resting Heart Rate (bpm) Body Mass (kg) Female adolescent 72 40.91 Female adolescent 70 52.85 Female...
