In the natural world it's normal to squat the young ones to train them and to teach them to avoid the harms as even animals give mild punishments in the form of growling, swats or mild teeth bearings to their misbehaving young ones. This mild form of corporal punishment will teach the children to discipline themselves and to have appropriate behavior so that they are better fitted for the competitions in life ahead. However, heavy spanking, physical and mental torture must neither be supported nor promoted as it is more harmful than helpful.
Socio-cultural perspective on corporal punishment
Corporal punishment are meant to teach the children to behave according to the societal norms and values. Physical punishment may prevent a behavior that is not socially acceptable, to be repeated in a child. Thus, it's a way of conforming children to the norms and values of society and culture. However,excess of such punishment will cause social deviance than social conformity.
