Compare and contrast the eye and a camera. What parts of the camera correspond to the iris, the retina, and the cornea of the eye?

Solutions

Expert Solution

the human eye and the camera are alike and different on a number of things.

1) iris of an eye is a thin circular structure in the eye, its main fuction is to control the diameter and size of the pupil which is responsible for the amount of light reaching the retina which is smilar to the aperture of the camera which has the same function.

2) the retina is a membrane located very back of the eye is a membrane that contains photoreceptor nerve cells , they convert the light rays into electrical signals which are sent to the brain via optic nerve and image is formed and this is similar to the film of the camera.

3) cornea is the main focusing part of the eye and its function is to refract or bending of light rays through the pupil which is the dark and round opening in the center of the iris. It acts similar to the lens cover of a camera which is the front lens element of a lens.

4) In order to focus, the lens of the camera changes position like it goes closer or far away from the film but in the eye, the lens changes shape in order to focus.

5)the retina is not light sensitive , so the human eye has the higher range of sensitivity in the dark but the the camera film is very much senstive to light so the eye has better imaging and capturing power in darkness.

The Human Eye THE HUMAN EYE: While digital camera form images with pixels, the human eye forms images with rods and cones that lie on the retina. If two point objects close together are to be seen as two distinct objects, the images must fall on the retina on two different cones that are not adjacent. That is, there must be a cone between them. Assume that the cones are sensitive to a wavelength of 550nm. If the iris is...
