The following questions require that you conduct appropriate tests of the null hypotheses outlined in each question using an a=0.05 significance level. In all cases you are expected to use the appropriate inferential statistical test available in the Excel data analysis tool pack. Questions requiring a post hoc means comparison test (ie Scheffe’s or Tukey’s HSD test) are worth 20 marks, otherwise they are worth 10 marks.

A researcher is attempting to determine whether significant differences exist between the mean time spent studying (hours per week) among students in four different undergraduate degree programs at Trent University. Identify and test the appropriate hypothesis for this study. If necessary, complete a means comparison test using the Tukey’s HSD test outlined in the text book (page 103 and Appendix 4).

Following to questions answer the following: - Provide the null and alternative hypotheses with the appropriate symbols. - The significance level of the test. If it is not given use a significance level of 0.05. - The P-value for the test. State whether you reject or fail to reject the null hypothesis. In other words, compare the P-value to the significance level to decide whether to reject or fail to reject the null hypothesis. Question 1: The body mass index...
