Is the sequence 0.3, 1.2, 2.1, 3, … arithmetic? If so find the common difference.

Solutions

Expert Solution

Consider the sequence,

0.3, 1.2, 2.1, 3, …

Compute the difference of first term and second term of the given sequence,

a2 – a1 = 1.2 – 0.3

              = 0.9

Compute the difference of second term and third term of the given sequence,

a3 – a2 = 2.1 – 1.2

              = 0.9

Compute the difference of third term and forth term of the given sequence,

a4 – a3 = 3 – 2.1

              = 0.9

As the difference between any two successive terms is constant (0.9), the given sequence is an “Arithmetic Sequence.”

The constant difference between any two successive terms is 0.9, the common difference of given arithmetic sequence will be d = 0.9.

The constant difference between any two successive terms is 0.9, the common difference of given arithmetic sequence will be d = 0.9.
